In Morocco, semiconductor thyristor exports plunged by an average annual rate of -12.8% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: South Africa (+11.7% per year) and Namibia (+27.3% per year).

In 2022, the export price in Africa amounted to $X per unit, surging by 16% against the previous year. In general, the export price enjoyed a prominent increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when the export price increased by 80%. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Morocco ($X per unit), while Tunisia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

In 2022, imports of semiconductor thyristors, diacs and triacs in Africa contracted slightly to X units, waning by -2% compared with the year before. Overall, imports recorded a perceptible contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 45% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, semiconductor thyristor imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, posted prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 296% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

The purchases of the five major importers of semiconductor thyristors, diacs and triacs, namely Egypt, Tunisia, Rwanda, South Africa and Algeria, represented more than two-thirds of total import. It was distantly followed by Tanzania (X units) and Nigeria (X units), together constituting a 10% share of total imports.

The second position in the ranking was held by South Africa ($X), with a 6.8% share of total imports. It was followed by Tunisia, with a 4% share.
