From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the exports of remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, exports of siliceous fossil meals (kieselguhr, tripolite and diatomite) soared to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 56% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the exports of failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Democratic Republic of the Congo ($X per ton), while Mozambique ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mozambique (+5.2%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

In 2021, the amount of siliceous fossil meals (kieselguhr, tripolite and diatomite) imported in Africa declined modestly to X tons, reducing by -4.4% against 2020 figures. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 29% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to siliceous fossil meal (kieselguhr, tripolite and diatomite) imports into South Africa stood at -2.6%. At the same time, Gabon (+40.1%), Angola (+19.0%), Burkina Faso (+17.2%), Zambia (+8.1%), Nigeria (+7.6%), Democratic Republic of the Congo (+4.7%), Cameroon (+3.6%) and Algeria (+2.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Gabon emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Africa, with a CAGR of +40.1% from 2012-2021. Mozambique and Egypt experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Ethiopia (-2.9%) and Tanzania (-3.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Angola (+6.6 p.p.), Nigeria (+4.7 p.p.), Gabon (+2.9 p.p.) and Burkina Faso (+1.8 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Ethiopia, Tanzania and South Africa saw its share reduced by -1.7%, -1.8% and -12.2% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, South Africa ($X), Angola ($X) and Nigeria ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 42% of total imports. These countries were followed by Cameroon, Ethiopia, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Zambia, Burkina Faso, Mozambique, Algeria, Gabon, Tanzania and Egypt, which together accounted for a further 36%.
Gabon, with a CAGR of +33.9%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 3.4% against the previous year. Overall, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 8.1% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2019 to 2021, the import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Angola ($X per ton), while Nigeria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Ethiopia (+6.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
