The African knitted ski-suit market expanded sharply to $X in 2022, surging by 12% against the previous year. Overall, consumption, however, continues to indicate a perceptible reduction. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of the market remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, knitted ski-suit production rose modestly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, continues to indicate a mild decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when the production volume increased by 13%. Over the period under review, production hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, production failed to regain momentum.

Exports in Africa

In 2022, the amount of ski-suits of knitted or crocheted textiles exported in Africa contracted remarkably to X units, dropping by -33.9% against the previous year's figure. Overall, exports, however, saw a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 169%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X units, and then fell remarkably in the following year.

In value terms, knitted ski-suit exports dropped significantly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed prominent growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 130%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Tunisia was the main exporter of ski-suits of knitted or crocheted textiles in Africa, with the volume of exports finishing at X units, which was near 80% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Swaziland (X units), generating a 17% share of total exports.

Tunisia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the ski-suits of knitted or crocheted textiles exports, with a CAGR of +37.1% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Swaziland (+1.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Tunisia (+68 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Swaziland saw its share reduced by -32.2% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.

In value terms, Tunisia ($X) remains the largest knitted ski-suit supplier in Africa, comprising 69% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Swaziland ($X), with a 25% share of total exports.

In Tunisia, knitted ski-suit exports increased at an average annual rate of +30.3% over the period from 2012-2022.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in Africa amounted to $X per unit, rising by 10% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a deep contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 an increase of 35%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2014 to 2022, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Swaziland ($X per unit), while Tunisia totaled $X per unit.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Swaziland (-1.4%).

Imports in Africa

Knitted ski-suit imports dropped dramatically to X units in 2022, waning by -17.1% against 2021 figures. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a pronounced decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 105% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, knitted ski-suit imports fell rapidly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports saw a deep downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 91%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Cote d'Ivoire was the key importing country with an import of around X units, which amounted to 52% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Zambia (X units), making up an 11% share of total imports. Algeria (X units), South Africa (X units), Botswana (X units), Angola (X units), Tunisia (X units), Burundi (X units), Congo (X units), Madagascar (X units) and Egypt (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to knitted ski-suit imports into Cote d'Ivoire stood at +16.9%. At the same time, Madagascar (+28.9%), Botswana (+19.5%), Burundi (+11.7%), Tunisia (+11.1%), Algeria (+5.4%) and South Africa (+1.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Madagascar emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Africa, with a CAGR of +28.9% from 2012-2022. Congo experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Zambia (-2.0%), Egypt (-2.7%) and Angola (-17.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Cote d'Ivoire, Botswana, Algeria, Madagascar, Burundi, Tunisia and Zambia increased by +44, +3, +2.4, +2.3, +2.1, +2.1 and +1.7 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Cote d'Ivoire ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported ski-suits of knitted or crocheted textiles in Africa, comprising 40% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by South Africa ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by Angola, with an 8.8% share.

In Cote d'Ivoire, knitted ski-suit imports increased at an average annual rate of +4.8% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: South Africa (-2.2% per year) and Angola (-13.5% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in Africa amounted to $X per unit, declining by -4.8% against the previous year. In general, the import price saw a perceptible decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when the import price increased by 82%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum at $X per unit in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per unit), while Burundi ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Angola (+4.5%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
