The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 307% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, sodium nitrate imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Overall, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. In value terms, South Africa ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported sodium nitrate in Africa, comprising 34% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Morocco ($X), with a 15% share of total imports. It was followed by Ghana, with a 7.2% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in South Africa amounted to -5.1%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Morocco (+19.6% per year) and Ghana (+15.1% per year).

The import price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2022, growing by 5.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when the import price increased by 46%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Tunisia ($X per ton), while Algeria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Tunisia (+6.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
