In 2021, Zambia (X tons), South Africa (X tons) and Nigeria (X tons) represented the key exporter of soybean oilcake in Africa, mixing up 71% of total export. It was distantly followed by Ethiopia (X tons), Malawi (X tons) and Egypt (X tons), together mixing up a 24% share of total exports. Sudan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Ethiopia (with a CAGR of +80.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Zambia ($X), South Africa ($X) and Nigeria ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, with a combined 71% share of total exports. Ethiopia, Malawi, Egypt and Sudan lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 26%.
Among the main exporting countries, Ethiopia, with a CAGR of +98.7%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 34% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, major exporting countries recorded the following prices: in Ethiopia ($X per ton) and Nigeria ($X per ton), while South Africa ($X per ton) and Egypt ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Ethiopia (+9.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, overseas purchases of soybean oilcake decreased by -28.3% to X tons, falling for the fifth year in a row after five years of growth. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a deep slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 13%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, soybean oilcake imports dropped to $X in 2021. Overall, imports saw a abrupt decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 19% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, Morocco (X tons) and South Africa (X tons) were the major importers of soybean oilcake in Africa, together creating 52% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Algeria (X tons), mixing up a 12% share of total imports. Tunisia (X tons), Libya (X tons), Senegal (X tons), Cote d'Ivoire (X tons), Zimbabwe (X tons), Mauritius (X tons), Tanzania (X tons), Kenya (X tons), Ghana (X tons) and Mozambique (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Tanzania (with a CAGR of +39.0%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Morocco ($X), South Africa ($X) and Algeria ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 62% share of total imports. Libya, Senegal, Tunisia, Kenya, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Mauritius, Cote d'Ivoire and Ghana lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 29%.
Among the main importing countries, Tanzania, with a CAGR of +34.0%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Africa amounted to $X per ton, rising by 34% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Mozambique ($X per ton), while Algeria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Senegal (+9.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
