In value terms, steam turbine exports expanded remarkably to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, faced a sharp decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by 170% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
South Africa represented the major exporter of steam turbines and other vapor turbines in Africa, with the volume of exports accounting for X units, which was near 63% of total exports in 2021. Egypt (X units) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Tanzania (X units). All these countries together took near 26% share of total exports. Nigeria (X units), Zambia (X units) and Malawi (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
South Africa experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of steam turbines and other vapor turbines. At the same time, Nigeria (+8.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Nigeria emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Africa, with a CAGR of +8.0% from 2012-2021. Egypt experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Malawi (-1.7%), Zambia (-2.4%) and Tanzania (-30.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of South Africa, Egypt, Nigeria, Zambia and Malawi increased by +60, +17, +4.3, +2.8 and +2.1 percentage points, respectively.
In value terms, the largest steam turbine supplying countries in Africa were Nigeria ($X), South Africa ($X) and Egypt ($X), with a combined 90% share of total exports.
Among the main exporting countries, Egypt, with a CAGR of +35.4%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Africa amounted to $X per unit, increasing by 14% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a buoyant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the export price increased by 95%. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Nigeria ($X per unit), while Tanzania ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Egypt (+34.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the amount of steam turbines and other vapor turbines imported in Africa skyrocketed to X units, with an increase of 96% on the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a abrupt decrease. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country
Kenya represented the major importing country with an import of around X units, which resulted at 72% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Nigeria (X units), generating a 16% share of total imports. Algeria (X units) and Egypt (X units) took a relatively small share of total imports.
Kenya was also the fastest-growing in terms of the steam turbines and other vapor turbines imports, with a CAGR of +95.8% from 2012 to 2021. In Egypt, steam turbine imports expanded at an average annual rate of +23.3% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Nigeria (+14.8% per year) and Kenya (+17.6% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Africa amounted to $X per unit, dropping by -43.2% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a deep reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 an increase of 46%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per unit), while Algeria ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Egypt (+11.9%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
