In value terms, steel spring exports rose rapidly to $X in 2021. In general, exports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 12%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, Tunisia (X tons) represented the main exporter of steel springs and leaves for springs, creating 81% of total exports. It was distantly followed by South Africa (X tons), comprising a 13% share of total exports. Kenya (X tons) took a little share of total exports.

In 2021, the export price in Africa amounted to $X per ton, therefore, remained relatively stable against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 6.2% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per ton), while Kenya ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Tunisia (-0.5%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

In 2021, steel spring imports in Africa skyrocketed to X tons, jumping by 25% compared with the previous year's figure. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports into South Africa increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Angola (+14.2%), Somalia (+12.1%), Tunisia (+11.2%), Ghana (+8.1%), Kenya (+7.1%), Algeria (+4.4%) and Morocco (+4.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Angola emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Africa, with a CAGR of +14.2% from 2012-2021. Ethiopia, Libya and Tanzania experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Sudan (-8.1%) and Egypt (-15.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of South Africa (+3.7 p.p.), Tunisia (+2.8 p.p.), Angola (+2.8 p.p.), Kenya (+2.7 p.p.) and Ghana (+2.3 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Sudan (-5.6 p.p.) and Egypt (-16.1 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

The second position in the ranking was held by Tunisia ($X), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by Algeria, with a 7.7% share.
In South Africa, steel spring imports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Tunisia (+11.0% per year) and Algeria (+4.8% per year).
