Total exports indicated a slight increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +6.6% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when exports increased by 31%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, candy, sweets, and nonchocolate confectionery exports reached $X in 2022. Overall, exports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 28%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
In 2022, South Africa (X tons), distantly followed by Egypt (X tons), Kenya (X tons), Togo (X tons), Swaziland (X tons), Morocco (X tons) and Zambia (X tons) were the main exporters of candies, sweets, and nonchocolate confectionery, together making up 89% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Togo (with a CAGR of +12.3%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest candy, sweets, and nonchocolate confectionery supplying countries in Africa were South Africa ($X), Egypt ($X) and Kenya ($X), with a combined 62% share of total exports. Swaziland, Togo, Morocco and Zambia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 27%.
Togo, with a CAGR of +13.0%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2022, with an increase of 9.1% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a slight descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 14% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per ton), while Togo ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Egypt (+3.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Africa
In 2022, approx. X tons of candies, sweets, and nonchocolate confectionery were imported in Africa; with a decrease of -9.4% compared with the year before. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 23%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons, and then contracted in the following year.
In value terms, candy, sweets, and nonchocolate confectionery imports declined to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 24%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then reduced in the following year.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Cote d'Ivoire (with a CAGR of +23.6%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest candy, sweets, and nonchocolate confectionery importing markets in Africa were South Africa ($X), Libya ($X) and Sudan ($X), with a combined 24% share of total imports. Nigeria, Ghana, Cote d'Ivoire, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Angola, Rwanda, Tanzania, Botswana, Somalia and Burkina Faso lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 34%.

In 2022, the import price in Africa amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 1.9% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 an increase of 3.5%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Sudan ($X per ton), while Burkina Faso ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
