Tap And Valve Market Size in Africa
For the fifth year in a row, the African tap and valve market recorded growth in sales value, which increased by 18% to $X in 2022. The total consumption indicated tangible growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, consumption increased by +73.0% against 2015 indices. Over the period under review, the market attained the maximum level in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
Tap And Valve Production in Africa
In value terms, tap and valve production shrank slightly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Overall, production, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the production volume increased by 64%. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X. From 2014 to 2022, production growth remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports in Africa
In 2022, the amount of taps, cocks, valves and similar appliances exported in Africa stood at X tons, with an increase of 1.9% on 2021 figures. Overall, exports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when exports increased by 8.3%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, tap and valve exports expanded modestly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 14%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
In 2022, South Africa (X tons) was the main exporter of taps, cocks, valves and similar appliances, committing 73% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Tunisia (X tons), achieving a 16% share of total exports. Morocco (X tons) held a little share of total exports.
South Africa experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of taps, cocks, valves and similar appliances. At the same time, Tunisia (+2.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Tunisia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Africa, with a CAGR of +2.8% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Morocco (-4.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Tunisia (+4.6 p.p.) and South Africa (+1.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest tap and valve supplier in Africa, comprising 64% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Tunisia ($X), with a 25% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in South Africa was relatively modest. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Tunisia (+10.0% per year) and Morocco (+1.7% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2022, leveling off at the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the export price increased by 21% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Tunisia ($X per ton), while South Africa ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Tunisia (+7.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Africa
For the fifth year in a row, Africa recorded growth in supplies from abroad of taps, cocks, valves and similar appliances, which increased by 31% to X tons in 2022. Overall, imports showed buoyant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 32% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
In value terms, tap and valve imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
Nigeria dominates imports structure, amounting to X tons, which was near 54% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by South Africa (X tons), Egypt (X tons) and Algeria (X tons), together making up a 21% share of total imports. Morocco (X tons), Libya (X tons) and Angola (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Nigeria was also the fastest-growing in terms of the taps, cocks, valves and similar appliances imports, with a CAGR of +21.8% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Morocco (+3.6%) and Algeria (+2.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. South Africa and Libya experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Egypt (-2.5%) and Angola (-5.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Nigeria increased by +38 percentage points.
In value terms, Nigeria ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported taps, cocks, valves and similar appliances in Africa, comprising 35% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by South Africa ($X), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by Algeria, with a 9% share.
In Nigeria, tap and valve imports increased at an average annual rate of +18.7% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: South Africa (+1.2% per year) and Algeria (+0.7% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Africa amounted to $X per ton, falling by -8.7% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a pronounced contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 17% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Angola ($X per ton), while Nigeria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Egypt (+2.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
