As a result, the exports reached the peak of X units. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, telecommunications instrument exports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, saw a abrupt shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when exports increased by 215% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, South Africa (X units) and Algeria (X units) were the key exporters of telecommunications instruments in Africa, together committing 49% of total exports. Democratic Republic of the Congo (X units) took the next position in the ranking, followed by Morocco (X units) and Mozambique (X units). All these countries together took approx. 24% share of total exports. The following exporters - Cabo Verde (X units), Cote d'Ivoire (X units), Guinea (X units), Tanzania (X units) and Rwanda (X units) - together made up 13% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Mozambique (with a CAGR of +75.6%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest telecommunications instrument supplier in Africa, comprising 77% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Algeria ($X), with a 6% share of total exports. It was followed by Mozambique, with a 2.7% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in South Africa amounted to -11.0%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Algeria (+29.9% per year) and Mozambique (+61.8% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Africa stood at $X per unit in 2021, growing by 9.7% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded a deep contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 100%. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure at $X per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per unit), while Cabo Verde ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Algeria (-0.1%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in Africa

In 2021, approx. X units of telecommunications instruments were imported in Africa; increasing by 33% compared with 2020. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 46%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X units in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, telecommunications instrument imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a noticeable reduction. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Among the main importing countries, Tunisia, with a CAGR of +19.3%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the import price in Africa amounted to $X per unit, shrinking by -6.7% against the previous year. Overall, the import price showed a perceptible setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 an increase of 19%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per unit in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per unit), while Madagascar ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
