In 2022, shipments abroad of television receivers decreased by -4.9% to X units, falling for the third year in a row after two years of growth. In general, exports saw a slight shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 66% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X units. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, television receiver exports shrank notably to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated a perceptible expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 88% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
In 2022, Tunisia (X units) and Egypt (X units) were the key exporters of television receivers in Africa, together constituting 87% of total exports. It was distantly followed by South Africa (X units), mixing up an 11% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by Egypt (with a CAGR of +22.4%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the exports figures.
In value terms, Egypt ($X) remains the largest television receiver supplier in Africa, comprising 72% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Tunisia ($X), with a 21% share of total exports.
In Egypt, television receiver exports increased at an average annual rate of +29.3% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Tunisia (-7.7% per year) and South Africa (-4.8% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in Africa amounted to $X per unit, which is down by -16.9% against the previous year. Export price indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +6.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, television receiver export price increased by +26.9% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the export price increased by 48%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per unit, and then fell significantly in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per unit), while Tunisia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Egypt (+5.6%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in Africa
In 2022, supplies from abroad of television receivers increased by 2.6% to X units for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, imports showed a notable expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 1,938% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, television receiver imports shrank slightly to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when imports increased by 37%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Ghana (X units), Kenya (X units), Nigeria (X units), Morocco (X units), Cote d'Ivoire (X units), Democratic Republic of the Congo (X units), Cameroon (X units), South Africa (X units), Libya (X units), Algeria (X units), Tunisia (X units) and Tanzania (X units) represented roughly 70% of total imports in 2022. Mozambique (X units) held a little share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Cote d'Ivoire (with a CAGR of +30.0%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest television receiver importing markets in Africa were Morocco ($X), Nigeria ($X) and Ghana ($X), with a combined 38% share of total imports. Kenya, Libya, Algeria, Cote d'Ivoire, Tanzania, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Cameroon, South Africa, Mozambique and Tunisia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 33%.
In terms of the main importing countries, Cote d'Ivoire, with a CAGR of +17.9%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Africa stood at $X per unit in 2022, with a decrease of -3.1% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a mild downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the import price increased by 1,515%. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Morocco ($X per unit), while Tunisia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Libya (+8.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
