By contrast, South Africa (-4.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Morocco, Mauritius and South Africa increased by +64, +28 and +2.4 percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest tennis and badminton rackets supplying countries in Africa were Morocco ($X), Mauritius ($X) and South Africa ($X), together accounting for 99% of total exports.

Tennis and badminton rackets imports fell to X units in 2022, reducing by -6.7% against 2021. In general, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 59% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, tennis and badminton rackets imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated noticeable growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.3% over the last decade. By contrast, Tunisia (-2.1%) and Egypt (-7.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Mauritius (+6.3 p.p.), Algeria (+3.1 p.p.), Morocco (+2.1 p.p.) and Libya (+1.8 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Tunisia (-1.6 p.p.), Egypt (-2.8 p.p.) and South Africa (-14 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, South Africa ($X), Mauritius ($X) and Morocco ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 76% share of total imports.

In terms of the main importing countries, Mauritius, with a CAGR of +26.8%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Africa stood at $X per unit in 2022, picking up by 59% against the previous year. Import price indicated a moderate increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, tennis and badminton rackets import price increased by +104.8% against 2019 indices. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
