The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 41% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per square meter in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Morocco ($X per square meter), while Togo ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uganda (+2.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, supplies from abroad of terry towelling (excluding of cotton) increased by 2.8% to X square meters for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In general, imports, however, saw a abrupt contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 25% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X square meters in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, non-cotton terry towelling imports amounted to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, saw a drastic downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 9.4% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Gambia, with a CAGR of +34.6%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Africa stood at $X per square meter in 2021, rising by 2.1% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.2%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when the import price increased by 23%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per square meter. From 2014 to 2021, the import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Tanzania ($X per square meter), while Ethiopia ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Tanzania (+10.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
