Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

South Africa represented the major exporting country with an export of around X tons, which amounted to 48% of total exports. In 2021, approx. X tons of titanium dioxide pigments and colouring preparations were imported in Africa; surging by 7.6% against the year before. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.5% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 20% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
In value terms, titanium dioxide pigments imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated perceptible growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.0% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, Egypt ($X), South Africa ($X) and Morocco ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 57% share of total imports. Algeria, Kenya, Nigeria, Cote d'Ivoire, Tunisia, Tanzania, Ghana, Ethiopia and Uganda lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 33%.
Ethiopia, with a CAGR of +18.9%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 20% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a slight descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 26%. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Morocco ($X per ton), while Uganda ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Ethiopia (+3.9%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
