The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production hit record highs at $X in 2020, and then declined modestly in the following year.

Rubber tube and pipe exports surged to X tons in 2021, rising by 32% against 2020 figures. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.1% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, rubber tube and pipe exports surged to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.4% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
In 2021, South Africa (X tons) was the main exporter of tubes, pipes and hoses of vulcanized rubber, generating 54% of total exports. Morocco (X tons) held a 17% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Tunisia (9.6%). The following exporters - Senegal (X tons), Mauritania (X tons), Egypt (X tons) and Swaziland (X tons) - together made up 14% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to rubber tube and pipe exports from South Africa stood at +1.4%. At the same time, Mauritania (+119.9%), Senegal (+72.7%), Morocco (+37.1%), Egypt (+20.3%) and Tunisia (+4.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Mauritania emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Africa, with a CAGR of +119.9% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Swaziland (-3.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Morocco, Senegal, Mauritania and Egypt increased by +15, +4.4, +3.8 and +2.4 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest rubber tube and pipe supplier in Africa, comprising 54% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Morocco ($X), with a 24% share of total exports. It was followed by Tunisia, with a 6% share.
In South Africa, rubber tube and pipe exports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Morocco (+31.8% per year) and Tunisia (+6.5% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 14% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the export price increased by 16%. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per ton), while Mauritania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Egypt (+3.9%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.
Imports of Tubes, Pipes And Hoses Of Vulcanized Rubber
Imports in Africa
In 2021, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in supplies from abroad of tubes, pipes and hoses of vulcanized rubber, when their volume increased by 11% to X tons. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a slight decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 21%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, rubber tube and pipe imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of import peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
South Africa was the major importing country with an import of around X tons, which accounted for 28% of total imports. Algeria (X tons) took a 7.5% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Morocco (7%), Ghana (6.3%) and Egypt (5.7%). Nigeria (X tons), Tunisia (X tons), Angola (X tons), Democratic Republic of the Congo (X tons), Kenya (X tons), Tanzania (X tons), Zambia (X tons) and Namibia (X tons) held a minor share of total imports.
South Africa experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of tubes, pipes and hoses of vulcanized rubber. At the same time, Democratic Republic of the Congo (+10.5%), Morocco (+8.4%), Zambia (+2.0%), Algeria (+1.9%) and Namibia (+1.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Democratic Republic of the Congo emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Africa, with a CAGR of +10.5% from 2012-2021. Kenya, Tunisia and Ghana experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Angola (-7.7%), Tanzania (-8.1%), Nigeria (-9.8%) and Egypt (-13.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. South Africa (+4.7 p.p.), Morocco (+4.1 p.p.), Algeria (+2.1 p.p.) and Democratic Republic of the Congo (+2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Tanzania, Angola, Nigeria and Egypt saw its share reduced by -1.9%, -2.6%, -5% and -11.9% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, South Africa ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported tubes, pipes and hoses of vulcanized rubber in Africa, comprising 24% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Egypt ($X), with a 9.2% share of total imports. It was followed by Algeria, with a 7.5% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in South Africa was relatively modest. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Egypt (-1.1% per year) and Algeria (+2.5% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 14% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.6%. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Angola ($X per ton), while Kenya ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
