Vacuum Pump Market Size in Africa

The African vacuum pump market rose to $X in 2022, surging by 1.8% against the previous year. In general, consumption, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the market reached the peak level at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, vacuum pump production amounted to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 19% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production hit record highs at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, production remained at a lower figure.

In 2022, overseas shipments of vacuum pumps decreased by -1.5% to X units, falling for the third year in a row after two years of growth. Overall, exports recorded a pronounced contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 150% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X units. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, vacuum pump exports reduced remarkably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports saw a slight slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 49%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

South Africa was the largest exporter of vacuum pumps in Africa, with the volume of exports finishing at X units, which was near 64% of total exports in 2022. Egypt (X units) ranks second in terms of the total exports with an 18% share, followed by Morocco (9.8%). Equatorial Guinea (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to vacuum pump exports from South Africa stood at -5.2%. At the same time, Morocco (+68.0%), Equatorial Guinea (+47.0%) and Egypt (+2.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Morocco emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Africa, with a CAGR of +68.0% from 2012-2022. While the share of Morocco (+9.8 p.p.), Egypt (+8.1 p.p.) and Equatorial Guinea (+1.9 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of South Africa (-15.8 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest vacuum pump supplier in Africa, comprising 71% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Egypt ($X), with a 13% share of total exports. It was followed by Morocco, with a 1.5% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in South Africa was relatively modest. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Egypt (+4.3% per year) and Morocco (+29.0% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in Africa amounted to $X per unit, shrinking by -17.6% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, enjoyed slight growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the export price increased by 123%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per unit, and then contracted notably in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per unit), while Morocco ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Africa (+4.6%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in Africa

In 2022, purchases abroad of vacuum pumps was finally on the rise to reach X units after two years of decline. Total imports indicated a mild increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 45% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, vacuum pump imports fell to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 32%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Egypt (X units), South Africa (X units) and Nigeria (X units) represented the key importer of vacuum pumps in Africa, achieving 67% of total import. Algeria (X units) held the next position in the ranking, followed by Morocco (X units). All these countries together took near 15% share of total imports. The following importers - Libya (X units) and Mayotte (X units) - together made up 5.6% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Morocco (with a CAGR of +45.0%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Egypt ($X), South Africa ($X) and Morocco ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together comprising 46% of total imports.

Morocco, with a CAGR of +6.8%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Africa stood at $X per unit in 2022, dropping by -38.9% against the previous year. Overall, the import price showed a slight shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 47%. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Morocco ($X per unit), while Mayotte ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
