In 2022, after two years of growth, there was decline in the African market for television, video and digital cameras, when its value decreased by -2.1% to $X. Over the period under review, consumption recorded a noticeable setback. Over the period under review, the market attained the peak level at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, television, video and digital camera production expanded notably to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Overall, production, however, saw a pronounced descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the production volume increased by 32% against the previous year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, production failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, shipments abroad of television, video and digital cameras was finally on the rise to reach X units after three years of decline. Overall, exports, however, recorded a deep slump. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, television, video and digital camera exports dropped to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, saw a abrupt decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 33%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
In 2022, South Africa (X units) represented the largest exporter of television, video and digital cameras, mixing up 66% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Morocco (X units), making up a 14% share of total exports. The following exporters - Ethiopia (X units), Mauritius (X units), Namibia (X units) and Egypt (X units) - together made up 12% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to television, video and digital camera exports from South Africa stood at -12.8%. At the same time, Morocco (+23.3%), Ethiopia (+21.5%), Egypt (+17.4%) and Mauritius (+6.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Morocco emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Africa, with a CAGR of +23.3% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Namibia (-24.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Morocco (+14 p.p.), Ethiopia (+3.6 p.p.), Mauritius (+2.9 p.p.) and Egypt (+1.6 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of South Africa (-11.5 p.p.) and Namibia (-11.5 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest television, video and digital camera supplier in Africa, comprising 57% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Morocco ($X), with a 24% share of total exports. It was followed by Egypt, with a 2.2% share.
In South Africa, television, video and digital camera exports decreased by an average annual rate of -10.1% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Morocco (+25.8% per year) and Egypt (+16.1% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in Africa amounted to $X per unit, dropping by -9.7% against the previous year. Export price indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, television, video and digital camera export price increased by +68.8% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when the export price increased by 46% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2021, and then fell in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Morocco ($X per unit), while Ethiopia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

Television, video and digital camera imports reduced to X units in 2022, shrinking by -6.4% on 2021. In general, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 22% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units, and then contracted in the following year.
In value terms, television, video and digital camera imports reduced to $X in 2022. Overall, imports saw a noticeable downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 36%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2022, South Africa (X units), distantly followed by Egypt (X units), Morocco (X units), Kenya (X units), Ghana (X units) and Algeria (X units) were the largest importers of television, video and digital cameras, together comprising 73% of total imports. The following importers - Angola (X units), Cote d'Ivoire (X units), Guinea (X units), Nigeria (X units) and Cameroon (X units) - together made up 11% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Egypt (with a CAGR of +13.3%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
