Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X units in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 52% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, South Africa (X units) was the key exporter of video monitors, mixing up 56% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Botswana (X units), constituting a 30% share of total exports. The following exporters - Morocco (X units), Cameroon (X units) and Senegal (X units) - each accounted for a 5.3% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by Senegal (with a CAGR of +22.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest video monitor supplier in Africa, comprising 59% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Botswana ($X), with a 14% share of total exports. It was followed by Morocco, with a 12% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in South Africa amounted to -8.8%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Botswana (+19.6% per year) and Morocco (+13.8% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Africa stood at $X per unit in 2021, reducing by -9.7% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a pronounced downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 19% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Morocco ($X per unit), while Senegal ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, supplies from abroad of video monitors increased by 22% to X units for the first time since 2014, thus ending a six-year declining trend. In general, imports, however, saw a abrupt slump. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports into South Africa decreased at an average annual rate of -8.5% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Cote d'Ivoire (+17.4%), Morocco (+1.9%) and Ethiopia (+1.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Cote d'Ivoire emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Africa, with a CAGR of +17.4% from 2012-2021. Tanzania experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Senegal (-1.4%), Ghana (-3.8%), Tunisia (-4.0%), Botswana (-6.7%), Angola (-7.2%), Kenya (-11.9%), Egypt (-14.7%) and Nigeria (-19.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Morocco, Cote d'Ivoire, Botswana, Senegal and Ethiopia increased by +8.3, +6.9, +4.6, +2 and +1.6 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest video monitor importing markets in Africa were South Africa ($X), Morocco ($X) and Tunisia ($X), with a combined 46% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Cote d'Ivoire, Kenya, Ethiopia, Ghana, Egypt, Angola, Botswana, Tanzania, Nigeria and Senegal, which together accounted for a further 25%.

Cote d'Ivoire, with a CAGR of +14.4%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the import price in Africa amounted to $X per unit, picking up by 11% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.4%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the import price increased by 12%. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
