Glass Fiber Market Size in Africa
The African glass fiber market rose rapidly to $X in 2021, growing by 14% against the previous year. In general, consumption continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.
Glass Fiber Production in Africa
In value terms, glass fiber production expanded sharply to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. The total production indicated a mild increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, production decreased by -34.2% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 29%. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X. From 2018 to 2021, production growth failed to regain momentum.
Glass Fiber Exports
Exports in Africa
After three years of decline, overseas shipments of voiles, webs, mats and other articles of glass fibers increased by 5.2% to X tons in 2021. In general, exports saw a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 564%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, glass fiber exports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports enjoyed significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 81%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Egypt represented the key exporting country with an export of about X tons, which finished at 81% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Tunisia (X tons), generating a 13% share of total exports. The following exporters - South Africa (X tons) and Morocco (X tons) - together made up 5.6% of total exports.
Egypt was also the fastest-growing in terms of the voiles, webs, mats and other articles of glass fibers exports, with a CAGR of +49.0% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Tunisia (+22.5%) and Morocco (+21.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, South Africa (-4.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Egypt increased by +60 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Egypt ($X) remains the largest glass fiber supplier in Africa, comprising 85% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Tunisia ($X), with an 8.7% share of total exports. It was followed by Morocco, with a 4.6% share.
In Egypt, glass fiber exports expanded at an average annual rate of +65.3% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Tunisia (+14.6% per year) and Morocco (+22.1% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Africa amounted to $X per ton, rising by 11% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a temperate increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 an increase of 222% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Morocco ($X per ton), while South Africa ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Egypt (+10.9%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.
Glass Fiber Imports
Imports in Africa
In 2021, imports of voiles, webs, mats and other articles of glass fibers in Africa skyrocketed to X tons, increasing by 15% compared with 2020 figures. Total imports indicated a measured expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 24%. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
In value terms, glass fiber imports soared to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Morocco (X tons), followed by South Africa (X tons), Egypt (X tons), Algeria (X tons) and Tunisia (X tons) were the key importers of voiles, webs, mats and other articles of glass fibers, together achieving 64% of total imports. Uganda (X tons), Ghana (X tons), Kenya (X tons), Sudan (X tons), Nigeria (X tons), Cote d'Ivoire (X tons), Ethiopia (X tons) and Djibouti (X tons) held a little share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Uganda (with a CAGR of +41.3%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Morocco ($X), South Africa ($X) and Egypt ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 41% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Tunisia, Algeria, Sudan, Uganda, Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya, Cote d'Ivoire, Djibouti and Ethiopia, which together accounted for a further 43%.
Uganda, with a CAGR of +41.7%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Africa amounted to $X per ton, growing by 18% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.8%. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Sudan ($X per ton), while Ethiopia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Sudan (+21.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
