In 2021, the amount of vulcanised rubber thread and cord imported in Africa expanded slightly to X tons, surging by 5% on the previous year. Total imports indicated a measured increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.5% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -15.4% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by 64% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, Egypt (X tons), Sudan (X tons), Algeria (X tons), Morocco (X tons) and Tunisia (X tons) represented the key importer of vulcanised rubber thread and cord in Africa, achieving 58% of total import. It was distantly followed by Angola (X tons), mixing up a 4.9% share of total imports. The following importers - Tanzania (X tons), Nigeria (X tons), Togo (X tons), Guinea (X tons), Democratic Republic of the Congo (X tons), Kenya (X tons) and Libya (X tons) - together made up 19% of total imports.
