At the same time, Zambia (+29.3%), Burkina Faso (+8.3%) and Senegal (+6.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Zambia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Africa, with a CAGR of +29.3% from 2012-2021. While the share of Zambia (+11 p.p.) and Burkina Faso (+3.1 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of South Africa (-4.6 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest wheeled loader supplier in Africa, comprising 58% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Zambia ($X), with a 16% share of total exports. It was followed by Burkina Faso, with a 7% share.

In South Africa, wheeled loader exports declined by an average annual rate of -8.8% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Zambia (+29.1% per year) and Burkina Faso (+7.6% per year).

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 7,718%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, wheeled loader imports surged to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a noticeable curtailment. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

South Africa was the main importing country with an import of about X units, which resulted at 36% of total imports. From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to wheeled loader imports into South Africa stood at +15.8%. At the same time, Namibia (+23.6%), Cote d'Ivoire (+19.6%), Botswana (+14.3%), Democratic Republic of the Congo (+12.1%), Guinea (+11.8%), Nigeria (+9.6%), Tanzania (+7.8%) and Egypt (+3.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Namibia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Africa, with a CAGR of +23.6% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Libya (-1.1%), Sudan (-1.4%), Morocco (-3.1%) and Zambia (-9.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of South Africa (+22 p.p.), Namibia (+5.7 p.p.), Botswana (+3.2 p.p.), Cote d'Ivoire (+2.4 p.p.) and Democratic Republic of the Congo (+1.8 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Sudan (-1.6 p.p.), Morocco (-3.1 p.p.) and Zambia (-5.4 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, South Africa ($X), Egypt ($X) and Namibia ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 36% share of total imports.

Among the main importing countries, Namibia, with a CAGR of +16.0%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Africa stood at $X per unit in 2021, reducing by -28.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a abrupt slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 1,795%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Nigeria ($X per unit), while Botswana ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Tanzania (+1.2%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
