Botswana, with a CAGR of +38.8%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Africa stood at $X per unit in 2021, growing by 141% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate a strong increase. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Angola ($X per unit), while Nigeria ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Angola (+18.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Africa

Winche and capstan imports declined slightly to X units in 2021, with a decrease of -2.4% compared with the previous year. In general, imports saw a noticeable contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 99%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, winche and capstan imports rose sharply to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports recorded a pronounced shrinkage. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest winche and capstan importing markets in Africa were Egypt ($X), South Africa ($X) and Morocco ($X), together accounting for 39% of total imports. Nigeria, Algeria, Ghana, Angola, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Tanzania and Cameroon lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 35%.

Democratic Republic of the Congo, with a CAGR of +6.1%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The import price in Africa stood at $X per unit in 2021, rising by 16% against the previous year. Import price indicated mild growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, winche and capstan import price decreased by -4.8% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 132%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
