Zambia, with a CAGR of +54.5%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

The export price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2022, falling by -31.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the export price increased by 51%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then dropped markedly in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per ton), while Rwanda ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Africa (+6.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Tunisia ($X), Egypt ($X) and Nigeria ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 35% share of total imports. Algeria, Morocco, Kenya, Libya, South Africa, Angola, Cameroon, Senegal, Ghana and Mozambique lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 42%.

Cameroon, with a CAGR of +46.3%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in Africa amounted to $X per ton, waning by -43.4% against the previous year. In general, the import price showed a deep slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 15% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per ton), while Senegal ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
