In value terms, the largest women’s bathrobe supplying countries in Africa were Tunisia ($X), Morocco ($X) and South Africa ($X), with a combined 84% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Mauritius, Egypt, Madagascar and Lesotho, which together accounted for a further 15%.
In terms of the main exporting countries, Egypt, with a CAGR of +13.1%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The export price in Africa stood at $X per unit in 2021, rising by 11% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a slight setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 14%. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Mauritius ($X per unit), while Madagascar ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Egypt (+22.1%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in Africa
In 2021, supplies from abroad of women’s negligees, bathrobes and dressing gowns of knitted or crocheted textiles increased by 21% to X units, rising for the second consecutive year after four years of decline. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.2% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 27% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
In value terms, women’s bathrobe imports rose markedly to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +5.9% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period.
