For the seventh year in a row, the African women knitwear market recorded growth in sales value, which increased by 2.5% to $X in 2022. Overall, consumption posted a resilient expansion. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.

In value terms, women knitwear production rose modestly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production saw buoyant growth. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.0% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 27%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Morocco (X units) and Lesotho (X units) represented the largest exporters of women's or girls' clothing (knitted or crocheted) in 2022, reaching near 25% and 24% of total exports, respectively. It was distantly followed by Madagascar (X units), Kenya (X units), Swaziland (X units), Tunisia (X units), Mauritius (X units) and South Africa (X units), together comprising a 48% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for South Africa (with a CAGR of +14.7%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the export price in Africa amounted to $X per unit, declining by -6.6% against the previous year. Export price indicated noticeable growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 23% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
