As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, worked flat glass exports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a noticeable decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 137%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

Egypt prevails in exports structure, amounting to X tons, which was approx. 85% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by South Africa (X tons), constituting a 7.8% share of total exports. Tunisia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Egypt was also the fastest-growing in terms of the worked flat glass exports, with a CAGR of +17.0% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Tunisia (+3.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, South Africa (-15.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Egypt increased by +56 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Egypt ($X) remains the largest worked flat glass supplier in Africa, comprising 63% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by South Africa ($X), with a 24% share of total exports.

After two years of decline, overseas purchases of worked flat glass increased by 4.7% to X tons in 2021. Total imports indicated a modest increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -17.6% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 56%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, worked flat glass imports surged to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 46% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
