Glass Fibre Fabrics Market Size in Africa

The African glass fibre fabrics market contracted to $X in 2022, waning by -2.7% against the previous year. The total consumption indicated perceptible growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% over the last decade. The total production indicated tangible growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, production decreased by -0.5% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when the production volume increased by 17%. As a result, production reached the peak level of $X; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.

Exports in Africa

In 2022, exports of glass fibre fabrics in Africa contracted notably to X tons, declining by -15.3% compared with the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 100%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2021, and then dropped rapidly in the following year.

In value terms, glass fibre fabrics exports fell dramatically to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, recorded a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 66% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2021, and then fell markedly in the following year.

Exports by Country

Egypt was the key exporter of glass fibre fabrics in Africa, with the volume of exports recording X tons, which was approx. 70% of total exports in 2022. Morocco (X tons) held a 15% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Tunisia (14%).

Exports from Egypt increased at an average annual rate of +89.4% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Morocco (+94.8%) and Tunisia (+3.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Morocco emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Africa, with a CAGR of +94.8% from 2012-2022. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Egypt and Morocco increased by +69 and +15 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, Egypt ($X) remains the largest glass fibre fabrics supplier in Africa, comprising 76% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Tunisia ($X), with a 12% share of total exports.

In Egypt, glass fibre fabrics exports expanded at an average annual rate of +90.1% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Tunisia (+2.3% per year) and Morocco (+64.5% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in Africa amounted to $X per ton, waning by -3.9% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the export price increased by 39%. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2021, and then fell slightly in the following year.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per ton), while Morocco ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Egypt (+0.4%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in Africa

In 2022, the amount of glass fibre fabrics imported in Africa fell to X tons, with a decrease of -3% compared with the year before. Total imports indicated a measured increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -22.9% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 37%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, glass fibre fabrics imports shrank modestly to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when imports increased by 42%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Egypt (X tons) and Tunisia (X tons) represented the largest importers of glass fibre fabrics in 2022, amounting to near 21% and 18% of total imports, respectively. Algeria (X tons) held the next position in the ranking, followed by Morocco (X tons), South Africa (X tons) and Nigeria (X tons). All these countries together held near 39% share of total imports. Senegal (X tons), Kenya (X tons), Ghana (X tons), Democratic Republic of the Congo (X tons), Ethiopia (X tons) and Mozambique (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Senegal (with a CAGR of +47.1%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest glass fibre fabrics importing markets in Africa were Morocco ($X), Tunisia ($X) and South Africa ($X), with a combined 56% share of total imports. Egypt, Algeria, Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana, Ethiopia, Mozambique, Democratic Republic of the Congo and Senegal lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 36%.

In terms of the main importing countries, Senegal, with a CAGR of +25.1%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in Africa amounted to $X per ton, standing approx. at the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a slight slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the import price increased by 11% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Morocco ($X per ton), while Senegal ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Ghana (+15.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
