Exports by Country
South Africa represented the largest exporting country with an export of about X tons, which recorded 41% of total exports. Eritrea (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Burkina Faso (X tons), Nigeria (X tons), Morocco (X tons) and Namibia (X tons). All these countries together held near 56% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to zinc ores and concentrates exports from South Africa stood at +22.4%. At the same time, Burkina Faso (+17,725.7%), Nigeria (+24.9%), Eritrea (+18.4%) and Morocco (+2.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Burkina Faso emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Africa, with a CAGR of +17,725.7% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Namibia (-2.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of South Africa, Burkina Faso, Eritrea and Nigeria increased by +21, +15, +6.6 and +4.7 percentage points, respectively.
In value terms, South Africa ($X), Eritrea ($X) and Burkina Faso ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, with a combined 83% share of total exports.
Burkina Faso, with a CAGR of +18,914.3%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Africa amounted to $X per ton, growing by 45% against the previous year. Export price indicated noticeable growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Eritrea ($X per ton), while Nigeria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Burkina Faso (+6.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the amount of zinc ores and concentrates imported in Africa expanded significantly to X tons, increasing by 10% compared with the year before. Overall, imports saw a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 1,058%. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.

Cote d'Ivoire prevails in imports structure, accounting for X tons, which was near 95% of total imports in 2021. Algeria (X tons) took a minor share of total imports.
Cote d'Ivoire was also the fastest-growing in terms of the zinc ores and concentrates imports, with a CAGR of +9.0% from 2012 to 2021. Algeria (-12.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Cote d'Ivoire increased by +95 percentage points.
In value terms, Cote d'Ivoire ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported zinc ores and concentrates in Africa, comprising 94% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Algeria ($X), with a 1.7% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Cote d'Ivoire stood at +49.9%.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 37% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a slight decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the import price increased by 46%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2021, the import prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Cote d'Ivoire ($X per ton), while Algeria amounted to $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Cote d'Ivoire (+37.3%).
