Imports into Algeria
In 2022, supplies from abroad of apricots was finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2017, thus ending a four-year declining trend. Overall, imports, however, saw a pronounced decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 1,057% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, apricot imports rose to $X in 2022. In general, imports enjoyed pronounced growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 890%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Turkey (X tons) constituted the largest apricot supplier to Algeria, accounting for a 85% share of total imports. Moreover, apricot imports from Turkey exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Chile (X tons), more than tenfold. South Africa (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 5.3% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Turkey was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Chile (+10.3% per year) and South Africa (-3.8% per year).
In value terms, Turkey ($X) constituted the largest supplier of apricots to Algeria, comprising 96% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Chile ($X), with a 1.5% share of total imports. It was followed by South Africa, with a 1.5% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Turkey stood at +5.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Chile (+10.1% per year) and South Africa (-8.4% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average apricot import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, dropping by -3.5% against the previous year. In general, import price indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +6.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, apricot import price increased by +1.7% against 2016 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when the average import price increased by 47%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then declined slightly in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Spain ($X per ton), while the price for Chile ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (+19.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
