In 2021, overseas purchases of bridges, bridge sections, towers and lattice masts (of iron or steel) increased by 4.7% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a abrupt downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 109%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, bridge imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, showed a deep contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 99%. Imports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
Egypt (X tons), the UK (X tons) and Saudi Arabia (X tons) were the main suppliers of bridge imports to Algeria, together accounting for 59% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for the UK (with a CAGR of +74.7%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
