Overall, imports recorded a drastic downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 17% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, chlorides imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, imports saw a deep contraction. Imports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Egypt (X tons), China (X tons) and Morocco (X tons) were the main suppliers of chlorides imports to Algeria, with a combined 67% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Tunisia, India, Germany, Russia, Spain, the Netherlands and the United States, which together accounted for a further 23%.
