Domestic Appliances Market Size in Algeria

In 2021, the Algerian domestic appliances market increased by 4.7% to $X, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. The exports peaked in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.

In value terms, domestic appliances exports soared to $X in 2021. In general, exports saw prominent growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 142%. The exports peaked in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.

Exports by Country

France (X units) was the main destination for domestic appliances exports from Algeria, accounting for a 41% share of total exports. Moreover, domestic appliances exports to France exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Tunisia (X units), sevenfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Morocco (X units), with a 2.9% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to France stood at +8.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Tunisia (+14.6% per year) and Morocco (+43.1% per year).

In value terms, France ($X) remains the key foreign market for domestic appliances exports from Algeria, comprising 40% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Tunisia ($X), with a 6.1% share of total exports. It was followed by Morocco, with a 2.5% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to France totaled +12.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Tunisia (+14.7% per year) and Morocco (+39.5% per year).

In 2021, the average domestic appliances export price amounted to $X per unit, picking up by 3.5% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.2%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 an increase of 18%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2019 to 2021, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major overseas markets. Imports into Algeria

In 2021, purchases abroad of domestic appliances increased by 14% to X units, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. In general, imports, however, showed a slight downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 22% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X units in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, domestic appliances imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a pronounced descent. Imports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

Turkey (X units), China (X units) and Italy (X units) were the main suppliers of domestic appliances imports to Algeria, with a combined 56% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Turkey (with a CAGR of +7.0%), while imports for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

In value terms, China ($X), Turkey ($X) and France ($X) appeared to be the largest domestic appliances suppliers to Algeria, with a combined 49% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Italy, Egypt, Germany and South Korea, which together accounted for a further 11%.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per unit), while the price for Turkey ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
