Plastic Support Market Size in Algeria

Tunisia (X tons) was the main destination for plastic support exports from Algeria, accounting for a 52% share of total exports. Moreover, plastic support exports to Tunisia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Mauritania (X tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Benin (X tons), with a 16% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Tunisia was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Mauritania (+4.4% per year) and Benin (+11.6% per year).

In 2022, purchases abroad of spools, cops and similar supports of plastics was finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, imports showed a strong expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 42%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, plastic support imports declined slightly to $X in 2022. In general, imports showed a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 48%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Turkey (X tons), Italy (X tons) and France (X tons) were the main suppliers of plastic support imports to Algeria, with a combined 49% share of total imports. China, Spain, Saudi Arabia, Germany, Hungary, Egypt, Sweden, Belgium and the Netherlands lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 46%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by the Netherlands (with a CAGR of +69.3%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the average import price increased by 11% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the price for Sweden ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
