Exports from Angola
In 2022, argon exports from Angola dropped dramatically to X cubic meters, shrinking by -41.3% against 2021. In general, exports, however, saw significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 765%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X cubic meters, and then reduced sharply in the following year.
In value terms, argon exports fell significantly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 331% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
The UK (X cubic meters) was the main destination for argon exports from Angola, with a 94% share of total exports. Moreover, argon exports to the UK exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Spain (X cubic meters), more than tenfold.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to the UK amounted to +42.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Spain (+91.9% per year) and Namibia (+28.2% per year).
In value terms, the UK ($X), Spain ($X) and Namibia ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for argon exported from Angola worldwide.
Among the main countries of destination, Namibia, with a CAGR of +94.3%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the average argon export price amounted to $X per cubic meter, rising by 4.9% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a pronounced reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the average export price increased by 106% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per cubic meter. From 2017 to 2022, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Namibia ($X per cubic meter), while the average price for exports to the UK ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the UK (-9.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Argon Imports
Imports into Angola
In 2022, the amount of argon imported into Angola declined sharply to X cubic meters, waning by -30.1% on the year before. Overall, imports, however, recorded a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by 154% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X cubic meters. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, argon imports fell significantly to $X in 2022. In general, imports saw a perceptible descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 84%. Imports peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Portugal (X cubic meters) constituted the largest supplier of argon to Angola, accounting for a 37% share of total imports. Moreover, argon imports from Portugal exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, India (X cubic meters), twofold. South Africa (X cubic meters) ranked third in terms of total imports with an 8.2% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Portugal stood at +1.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: India (+35.0% per year) and South Africa (+6.0% per year).
In value terms, Portugal ($X) constituted the largest supplier of argon to Angola, comprising 56% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Germany ($X), with a 15% share of total imports. It was followed by India, with a 12% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Portugal totaled -4.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (+51.4% per year) and India (+36.8% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average argon import price stood at $X per cubic meter in 2022, growing by 10% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw a deep slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 an increase of 31%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per cubic meter in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per cubic meter), while the price for France ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (+1.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
