Bottled Water Market Size in Angola

The Angolan bottled water market amounted to $X in 2022, standing approx. at the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, bottled water exports shrank to $X in 2022. Overall, exports showed a moderate expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when exports increased by 570% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Democratic Republic of the Congo (X tons) was the main destination for bottled water exports from Angola, accounting for a 49% share of total exports. Moreover, bottled water exports to Democratic Republic of the Congo exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Namibia (X tons), twofold.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Democratic Republic of the Congo totaled +54.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Namibia (+16.0% per year) and Portugal (+48.2% per year).

In value terms, Democratic Republic of the Congo ($X) remains the key foreign market for bottled waters exports from Angola, comprising 60% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Namibia ($X), with a 22% share of total exports.

Imports into Angola

In 2022, purchases abroad of bottled waters increased by 15% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year declining trend. In general, imports, however, showed a sharp slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by 83%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, bottled water imports expanded rapidly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a sharp curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 23% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Portugal (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of bottled water to Angola, with a 47% share of total imports. Moreover, bottled water imports from Portugal exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Spain (X tons), fourfold. Italy (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 3.2% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Portugal totaled -29.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Spain (-0.1% per year) and Italy (-9.6% per year).

In value terms, Portugal ($X) constituted the largest supplier of bottled waters to Angola, comprising 42% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Spain ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by the United Arab Emirates, with a 3.9% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Portugal amounted to -26.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Spain (+2.0% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (+1.7% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average bottled water import price amounted to $X per ton, declining by -2.2% against the previous year. Overall, import price indicated noticeable growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, bottled water import price increased by +119.0% against 2018 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 105%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.
