Canned Food Market Size in Angola
The Angolan canned food market shrank to $X in 2021, which is down by -13.4% against the previous year. Democratic Republic of the Congo (X tons) was the main destination for canned food exports from Angola, accounting for a 75% share of total exports. Moreover, canned food exports to Democratic Republic of the Congo exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Spain (X tons), fivefold.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Democratic Republic of the Congo was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Spain (+55.3% per year) and Congo (+17.9% per year).
In value terms, Democratic Republic of the Congo ($X) remains the key foreign market for canned food exports from Angola, comprising 68% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Spain ($X), with a 20% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Democratic Republic of the Congo was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Spain (+47.8% per year) and Congo (+22.4% per year).

The average canned food export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, flattening at the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 69%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Spain ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Congo ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Congo (+3.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

After two years of decline, purchases abroad of canned food increased by 6.5% to X tons in 2021. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 49%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country
Italy (X tons), Thailand (X tons) and China (X tons) were the main suppliers of canned food imports to Angola, together comprising 56% of total imports. Portugal, Pakistan, Spain, Brazil, South Africa, Tanzania, Mexico, Malaysia and Argentina lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 34%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Mexico (with a CAGR of +35.5%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest canned food suppliers to Angola were Italy ($X), Portugal ($X) and Thailand ($X), together accounting for 40% of total imports. The average canned food import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, declining by -12.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a noticeable downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 an increase of 30%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2021, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Mexico ($X per ton), while the price for Tanzania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Malaysia (+2.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
