In 2022, the Angolan canned vegetable market increased by 52% to $X, rising for the second year in a row after three years of decline. Over the period under review, consumption, however, showed a drastic downturn. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, canned vegetable exports soared to $X in 2022. In general, exports showed a resilient expansion. The exports peaked at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Spain (X tons) was the main destination for canned vegetable exports from Angola, accounting for a 76% share of total exports. Moreover, canned vegetable exports to Spain exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Democratic Republic of the Congo (X tons), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was held by Luxembourg (X kg), with a 2% share.
From 2015 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Spain totaled +75.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Democratic Republic of the Congo (-1.1% per year) and Luxembourg (+7.6% per year).
In value terms, Spain ($X) remains the key foreign market for canned vegetables exports from Angola, comprising 88% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Democratic Republic of the Congo ($X), with a 4.8% share of total exports. It was followed by Portugal, with a 3.7% share.
From 2015 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Spain stood at +90.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Democratic Republic of the Congo (-2.0% per year) and Portugal (-26.3% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average canned vegetable export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, with an increase of 103% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a moderate expansion. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Portugal ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Democratic Republic of the Congo ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2015 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Luxembourg (+24.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Angola
In 2022, supplies from abroad of canned vegetables increased by 22% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a abrupt descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 62%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, canned vegetable imports soared to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, saw a abrupt decline. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
China (X tons), Italy (X tons) and Portugal (X tons) were the main suppliers of canned vegetable imports to Angola, together accounting for 75% of total imports. Tanzania, Spain, Belgium and Brazil lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 20%.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Tanzania (with a CAGR of +29.3%), while imports for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.
In value terms, Portugal ($X), China ($X) and Italy ($X) appeared to be the largest canned vegetable suppliers to Angola, together accounting for 78% of total imports. Spain, Belgium, Tanzania and Brazil lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 14%.
Among the main suppliers, Tanzania, with a CAGR of +34.5%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Spain ($X per ton), while the price for Tanzania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
