Trailer And Semi-Trailer Market Size in Angola

The Angolan trailer and semi-trailer market rose slightly to $X in 2022, growing by 4% against the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). Overall, consumption, however, continues to indicate a abrupt decline. Trailer and semi-trailer consumption peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, consumption failed to regain momentum.

Exports from Angola

In 2022, overseas shipments of cargo trailers and semi-trailers were finally on the rise to reach X units for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, exports, however, saw a abrupt contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 87%. The exports peaked at X units in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, trailer and semi-trailer exports contracted to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 87% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

The Netherlands (X units) was the main destination for trailer and semi-trailer exports from Angola, with a 49% share of total exports. Moreover, trailer and semi-trailer exports to the Netherlands exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Democratic Republic of the Congo (X units), threefold. Mozambique (X units) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 13% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to the Netherlands amounted to +22.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Democratic Republic of the Congo (-9.5% per year) and Mozambique (+7.2% per year).

In value terms, the Netherlands ($X), Democratic Republic of the Congo ($X) and Namibia ($X) constituted the largest markets for trailer and semi-trailer exported from Angola worldwide, together accounting for 75% of total exports.

The Netherlands, with a CAGR of +31.8%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The average trailer and semi-trailer export price stood at $X per unit in 2022, falling by -7.7% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a strong increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the average export price increased by 148%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $X per unit in 2021, and then fell in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Namibia ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Congo ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Namibia (+30.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Trailer And Semi-Trailer Imports

Imports into Angola

In 2022, the amount of cargo trailers and semi-trailers imported into Angola surged to X units, increasing by 17% compared with the year before. In general, imports, however, showed a deep slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 297% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X units in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, trailer and semi-trailer imports reduced rapidly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, saw a drastic downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 60% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

China (X units), Chile (X units) and Switzerland (X units) were the main suppliers of trailer and semi-trailer imports to Angola, with a combined 78% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Switzerland (with a CAGR of +13.0%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of cargo trailers and semi-trailers to Angola, comprising 49% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by South Korea ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by Brazil, with a 5.7% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from China stood at -15.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: South Korea (+9.0% per year) and Brazil (-30.7% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average trailer and semi-trailer import price amounted to $X per unit, which is down by -30.8% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a slight expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the average import price increased by 251%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $X per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Brazil ($X per unit), while the price for Chile ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
