Grape Market Size in Angola
In 2022, the Angolan grape market was finally on the rise to reach $X after two years of decline. In general, consumption, however, continues to indicate a sharp shrinkage. Over the period under review, the market reached the peak level at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports from Angola
Grape exports from Angola contracted remarkably to X tons in 2022, dropping by -34% compared with 2021. Overall, exports, however, enjoyed a strong increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 189% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, grape exports plummeted to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a prominent expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 172%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Namibia (X kg), Democratic Republic of the Congo (X kg) and Portugal (X kg) were the main destinations of grape exports from Angola, with a combined 93% share of total exports. Bahamas lagged somewhat behind, comprising a further 6.7%.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Bahamas (with a CAGR of +57.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for grape exported from Angola were Democratic Republic of the Congo ($X), Namibia ($X) and Portugal ($X), together accounting for 94% of total exports. These countries were followed by Bahamas, which accounted for a further 6.3%.
In terms of the main countries of destination, Bahamas, with a CAGR of +58.8%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The average grape export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, picking up by 3.8% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a noticeable decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the average export price increased by 9.7%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Portugal ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Namibia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Democratic Republic of the Congo (+15.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Grape Imports
Imports into Angola
After two years of decline, overseas purchases of grapes increased by 13% to X tons in 2022. Overall, imports, however, showed a abrupt downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 21%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, grape imports surged to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, faced a sharp descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 45% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, South Africa (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of grape to Angola, accounting for a 61% share of total imports. Moreover, grape imports from South Africa exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Israel (X tons), sevenfold. Argentina (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 6.8% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from South Africa stood at -17.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Israel (-8.2% per year) and Argentina (-5.1% per year).
In value terms, the largest grape suppliers to Angola were South Africa ($X), Israel ($X) and Argentina ($X), together comprising 77% of total imports.
In terms of the main suppliers, Argentina, with a CAGR of +0.1%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average grape import price amounted to $X per ton, surging by 8.4% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a pronounced decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 33% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2018 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Israel ($X per ton), while the price for Lebanon ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Namibia (+6.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
