The Angolan wire and cable market was finally on the rise to reach $X in 2021, after four years of decline. In general, consumption, however, saw a abrupt contraction. Exports from Angola
After seven years of growth, overseas shipments of insulated wire and cable decreased by -31.7% to X tons in 2021. Overall, exports, however, posted a resilient increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when exports increased by 113% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2020, and then dropped remarkably in the following year.
In value terms, wire and cable exports stood at $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, posted a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when exports increased by 317% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Namibia (X tons), Congo (X tons) and Ghana (X tons) were the main destinations of wire and cable exports from Angola, together comprising 55% of total exports. The Netherlands, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Mozambique and Lebanon lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 28%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Lebanon (with a CAGR of +168.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for wire and cable exported from Angola were Congo ($X), the Netherlands ($X) and Namibia ($X), with a combined 61% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Mozambique, Ghana, Democratic Republic of the Congo and Lebanon, which together accounted for a further 23%.
Among the main countries of destination, Lebanon, with a CAGR of +138.0%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average wire and cable export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 62% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a mild curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when the average export price increased by 235%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2020 to 2021, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Lebanon ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Mozambique (+25.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into Angola
In 2021, overseas purchases of insulated wire and cable increased by 39% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In general, imports, however, saw a abrupt shrinkage. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, wire and cable imports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a abrupt curtailment. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
Portugal (X tons), China (X tons) and India (X tons) were the main suppliers of wire and cable imports to Angola, with a combined 74% share of total imports. Norway, the UK, the United States, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates and Brazil lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 14%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Norway (with a CAGR of +38.1%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.
In value terms, Portugal ($X) constituted the largest supplier of insulated wire and cable to Angola, comprising 36% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by China ($X), with a 15% share of total imports. It was followed by Norway, with a 9.4% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from Portugal amounted to -11.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (+2.0% per year) and Norway (+15.8% per year).

In 2021, the average wire and cable import price amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 14% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 56% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the price for India ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
