In 2021, China (X tons) was the main iron ore supplier to Angola, accounting for a 92% share of total imports. Moreover, iron ore imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Portugal (X tons), more than tenfold.

Overall, import price indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, iron ore import price increased by +66.2% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the average import price increased by 51%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while the price for Portugal ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+5.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
