In 2021, imports of permanent magnets into Angola shrank rapidly to X tons, waning by -35.9% on 2020 figures. In general, imports showed a deep downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 152% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, permanent magnet imports reduced rapidly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports recorded a abrupt setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 234%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, China (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of permanent magnet to Angola, accounting for a 37% share of total imports. Moreover, permanent magnet imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the UK (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Portugal (X tons), with a 9.1% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China stood at +23.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the UK (+6.2% per year) and Portugal (-26.5% per year).

The UK, Portugal, Brazil, the Netherlands, South Africa, South Korea, the United States, India, Belgium and Latvia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 22%.
The Netherlands, with a CAGR of +29.3%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average permanent magnet import price amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 7.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.1% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, permanent magnet import price increased by +55.5% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the average import price increased by 58%. From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (+28.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
