Exports from Angola
In 2022, overseas shipments of rare gases (excluding argon) decreased by -24.6% to X cubic meters, falling for the third consecutive year after four years of growth. Overall, exports, however, posted a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when exports increased by 2,973%. The exports peaked at X cubic meters in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, rare gases exports reduced modestly to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, recorded significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 3,360% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2021, and then shrank modestly in the following year.
Exports by Country
The UK (X cubic meters) was the main destination for rare gases exports from Angola, accounting for a 58% share of total exports. Moreover, rare gases exports to the UK exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Spain (X cubic meters), threefold. Congo (X cubic meters) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 21% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to the UK stood at +31.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Spain (+25.8% per year) and Congo (+42.5% per year).
In value terms, the largest markets for rare gases exported from Angola were the UK ($X), Congo ($X) and Spain ($X), together comprising 100% of total exports.
The UK, with a CAGR of +44.9%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the average rare gases export price amounted to $X per cubic meter, rising by 27% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded tangible growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 77% against the previous year. The export price peaked in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Congo ($X per cubic meter), while the average price for exports to France ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the UK (+10.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into Angola
In 2022, purchases abroad of rare gases (excluding argon) decreased by -26.6% to X cubic meters, falling for the third consecutive year after three years of growth. Over the period under review, imports saw a noticeable reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 95% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X cubic meters in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, rare gases imports declined modestly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 146% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
Portugal (X cubic meters), Congo (X cubic meters) and South Africa (X cubic meters) were the main suppliers of rare gases imports to Angola, together accounting for 69% of total imports. China, the UK, Belgium, Germany, South Korea, France and the United States lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 27%.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for South Korea (with a CAGR of +37.1%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest rare gases suppliers to Angola were Portugal ($X), the UK ($X) and France ($X), with a combined 66% share of total imports. Congo, Belgium, South Korea, South Africa, China, the United States and Germany lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 28%.
South Korea, with a CAGR of +53.6%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The average rare gases import price stood at $X per cubic meter in 2022, growing by 33% against the previous year. In general, the import price saw tangible growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when the average import price increased by 59% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per cubic meter), while the price for Germany ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belgium (+15.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
