Democratic Republic of the Congo (X tons) was the main destination for preserved sardines exports from Angola, accounting for a 87% share of total exports. Moreover, preserved sardines exports to Democratic Republic of the Congo exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Namibia (X kg), tenfold.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Democratic Republic of the Congo totaled +14.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Spain (+127.2% per year) and Namibia (+9.4% per year).

The average preserved sardines export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, rising by 26% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a buoyant expansion. In 2022, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in supplies from abroad of sardines (prepared or preserved), when their volume increased by 8.4% to X tons. Over the period under review, imports, however, faced a deep setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 35%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, preserved sardines imports reduced slightly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, showed a abrupt setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 60% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Morocco (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of preserved sardines to Angola, accounting for a 61% share of total imports. Moreover, preserved sardines imports from Morocco exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Congo (X tons), threefold. China (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 4.5% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Morocco stood at -14.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Congo (+92.9% per year) and China (-2.5% per year).
In value terms, Morocco ($X) constituted the largest supplier of sardines (prepared or preserved) to Angola, comprising 77% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Congo ($X), with a 5.5% share of total imports. It was followed by China, with a 4% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Morocco stood at -12.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Congo (+55.6% per year) and China (-8.6% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average preserved sardines import price amounted to $X per ton, falling by -11.4% against the previous year. In general, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when the average import price increased by 38%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2016 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
