The Angolan soft drink market was finally on the rise to reach $X in 2021, after two years of decline. Over the period under review, the total consumption indicated a pronounced increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.5% over the last nine-year period. Exports by Country
Namibia (X litres) was the main destination for soft drink exports from Angola, with a 95% share of total exports. Moreover, soft drink exports to Namibia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Sao Tome and Principe (X litres), more than tenfold. Democratic Republic of the Congo (X litres) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 0.4% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Namibia totaled +67.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Sao Tome and Principe (+88.4% per year) and Democratic Republic of the Congo (-7.7% per year).
In value terms, Namibia ($X) remains the key foreign market for soft drink exports from Angola, comprising 81% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Sao Tome and Principe ($X), with a 17% share of total exports. It was followed by Democratic Republic of the Congo, with a 0.3% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Namibia totaled +59.5%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Sao Tome and Principe (+135.9% per year) and Democratic Republic of the Congo (-20.2% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average soft drink export price amounted to $X per litre, shrinking by -14.1% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a deep slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 an increase of 28% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per litre in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Sao Tome and Principe ($X per litre), while the average price for exports to Mozambique ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Sao Tome and Principe (+25.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into Angola
In 2021, after six years of decline, there was significant growth in purchases abroad of soft drinks, when their volume increased by 24% to X litres. Overall, imports, however, recorded a dramatic shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 31%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X litres. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, soft drink imports rose notably to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, recorded a precipitous contraction. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Portugal (X litres) constituted the largest supplier of soft drink to Angola, with a 34% share of total imports. Moreover, soft drink imports from Portugal exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Austria (X litres), twofold. Germany (X litres) ranked third in terms of total imports with an 11% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Portugal totaled -40.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Austria (-22.1% per year) and Germany (-9.1% per year).
In value terms, the largest soft drink suppliers to Angola were Austria ($X), Portugal ($X) and Germany ($X), together accounting for 69% of total imports. Spain, Thailand, the Netherlands, South Africa, the United Arab Emirates, Belgium, Moldova, France, Sweden and Lebanon lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 27%.
Moldova, with a CAGR of +1,637.3%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.
Import Prices by Country
The average soft drink import price stood at $X per litre in 2021, declining by -11% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.5%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the average import price increased by 22% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per litre in 2020, and then fell in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per litre), while the price for Sweden ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Lebanon (+5.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
