Telephone Market Size in Angola

The Angolan telephone market rose rapidly to $X in 2022, picking up by 5.5% against the previous year. The market value increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

Portugal (X units) was the main destination for telephone exports from Angola, accounting for a 64% share of total exports. In value terms, Portugal ($X) remains the key foreign market for telephones and videophones exports from Angola, comprising 90% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Niger ($X), with a 3% share of total exports. It was followed by Democratic Republic of the Congo, with a 2.5% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Portugal stood at +22.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Niger (0.0% per year) and Democratic Republic of the Congo (+16.7% per year).

After two years of decline, purchases abroad of telephones and videophones increased by 1.7% to X units in 2022. In general, imports, however, showed a deep slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by 235%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, telephone imports contracted modestly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 164%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, China (X units) constituted the largest telephone supplier to Angola, with a 36% share of total imports. Moreover, telephone imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Portugal (X units), threefold. Hong Kong SAR (X units) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 10% share.
