Tomato Market Size in Angola
The Angolan tomato market stood at $X in 2022, almost unchanged from the previous year. Tomato Production in Angola

Exports from Angola
After two years of decline, shipments abroad of tomatoes increased by 75% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, exports saw a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when exports increased by 14,314% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, tomato exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. In general, exports saw significant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 19,077%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Congo (X tons) was the main destination for tomato exports from Angola, accounting for a 60% share of total exports. Moreover, tomato exports to Congo exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Democratic Republic of the Congo (X tons), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was held by Portugal (X kg), with an 8.8% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Congo totaled -39.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Democratic Republic of the Congo (+27.6% per year) and Portugal (+67.4% per year).
In value terms, the largest markets for tomato exported from Angola were Congo ($X), Portugal ($X) and Bahamas ($X), together accounting for 70% of total exports.
Bahamas, with a CAGR of +94.0%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the average tomato export price amounted to $X per ton, shrinking by -30.8% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 99% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then declined rapidly in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Portugal ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Democratic Republic of the Congo ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Bahamas (+20.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Angola
After four years of decline, purchases abroad of tomatoes increased by 101% to X tons in 2022. Overall, imports, however, faced a dramatic contraction. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, tomato imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, faced a sharp curtailment. Imports peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, South Africa (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of tomato to Angola, accounting for a 65% share of total imports. Moreover, tomato imports from South Africa exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Democratic Republic of the Congo (X tons), fivefold. The third position in this ranking was held by Italy (X tons), with an 11% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from South Africa amounted to -22.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Democratic Republic of the Congo (+2.2% per year) and Italy (+13.1% per year).
In value terms, South Africa ($X) constituted the largest supplier of tomatoes to Angola, comprising 60% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Italy ($X), with a 17% share of total imports. It was followed by Portugal, with a 9.4% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from South Africa amounted to -22.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Italy (+38.0% per year) and Portugal (-26.5% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average tomato import price amounted to $X per ton, surging by 11% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 70%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Portugal ($X per ton), while the price for Congo ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+21.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
