Democratic Republic of the Congo (X litres) was the main destination for wine exports from Angola, with a 82% share of total exports. Moreover, wine exports to Democratic Republic of the Congo exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Congo (X litres), sixfold.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Democratic Republic of the Congo amounted to +29.9%.
In value terms, Democratic Republic of the Congo ($X) remains the key foreign market for wine exports from Angola, comprising 87% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Congo ($X), with a 2.4% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Democratic Republic of the Congo totaled +33.5%.
Export Prices by Country
The average wine export price stood at $X per litre in 2021, surging by 15% against the previous year. In general, export price indicated a perceptible expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.1% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when the average export price increased by 50%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per litre. From 2015 to 2021, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Democratic Republic of the Congo ($X per litre), while the average price for exports to Congo stood at $X per litre.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Democratic Republic of the Congo (+2.8%).
Wine Imports
Imports into Angola
In 2021, approx. X litres of wine were imported into Angola; with an increase of 54% against the previous year. In general, imports, however, showed a deep setback. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X litres in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, wine imports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a abrupt contraction. Imports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, Portugal (X litres) constituted the largest supplier of wine to Angola, with a 48% share of total imports. Moreover, wine imports from Portugal exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Spain (X litres), more than tenfold. South Africa (X litres) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 1.3% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Portugal totaled -16.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Spain (-27.2% per year) and South Africa (-19.1% per year).
In value terms, Portugal ($X) constituted the largest supplier of wine to Angola, comprising 44% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Spain ($X), with a 2.2% share of total imports. It was followed by South Africa, with a 1.9% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from Portugal totaled -16.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Spain (-26.2% per year) and South Africa (-24.4% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average wine import price amounted to $X per litre, rising by 11% against the previous year. In general, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when the average import price increased by 68% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per litre in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per litre), while the price for Spain ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (+1.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
