Portugal (X tons), Democratic Republic of the Congo (X tons) and Lebanon (X tons) were the main destinations of wood charcoal exports from Angola, with a combined 99.9% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Democratic Republic of the Congo (with a CAGR of +67.4%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.
In value terms, Portugal ($X) remains the key foreign market for wood charcoal exports from Angola, comprising 58% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Democratic Republic of the Congo ($X), with a 23% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Democratic Republic of the Congo (+31.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Angola
Wood charcoal imports into Angola contracted notably to X tons in 2021, with a decrease of -35.2% against 2020 figures. In general, imports, however, showed perceptible growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 281%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, wood charcoal imports fell significantly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 191%. Imports peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Portugal (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of wood charcoal to Angola, with a 58% share of total imports. Moreover, wood charcoal imports from Portugal exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, China (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by South Africa (X tons), with a 6.5% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Portugal totaled +20.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (+22.2% per year) and South Africa (-19.0% per year).
In value terms, Portugal ($X), South Africa ($X) and China ($X) appeared to be the largest wood charcoal suppliers to Angola, together comprising 78% of total imports.
China, with a CAGR of +41.3%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per ton), while the price for Portugal ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
