Banana And Plantain Market Size in Argentina

In 2022, the Argentinian banana and plantain market increased by 16% to $X, rising for the third year in a row after two years of decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 808% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, after two years of growth, there was decline in overseas purchases of bananas and plantains, when their volume decreased by -2.2% to X tons. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 13% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Brazil (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with an 8.4% share.

In value terms, Ecuador ($X) constituted the largest supplier of bananas and plantains to Argentina, comprising 69% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Bolivia ($X), with an 18% share of total imports. It was followed by Brazil, with a 7.1% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from Ecuador amounted to +6.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Bolivia (+8.5% per year) and Brazil (+16.8% per year).
